Dental implants are applied to:
Replace missing teeth or an individual tooth.
Hold movable dentures in place so they can be snapped on and off and held into place tighter.
You may be wondering which solution is best for you.
We want you to make the best, most informed decision possible.
All dental implants are assembled from titanium. Titanium is unprecedented because it’s a metal that is fully compatible with the body. There are very few metals that are biocompatible, implying they do not trigger an immune response in the human body.
Conventional dental implants are composed of two pieces with a diameter that is greater than 3mm. These dental implants have an external screw that is embedded into the jawbone. They also have an interior thread that allows multiple components (teeth, dentures) to be twisted down and fastened to the dental implant.
Mini dental implants are a reliable one-piece screw, smaller than 3 mm in width, with a functional ball-shaped end that sticks outside of the jaw bone. They are very helpful for providing support and comfort to dentures. The denture or a fabricated teeth have a rubber O-ring that goes around the mini dental implant ball.
Contrast between Mini Dental Implants and Conventional Dental Implants:
Because the mini dental implant is about half the diameter of the standard implant, it takes two mini dental implants to produce the support of one conventional dental implant.
Mini dental implants are about half the price of a standard dental implant.
There are many circumstances that may justify the use of a mini dental implant:
Individuals with inadequate health often have bone degeneration that makes the mini implant the exclusive option.
If a short-term fix is needed, the mini dental implant can buy some patients time until a more stable solution is possible.
Enjoy Your Mini Dental Implants Faster
Since mini dental implants are much thinner than traditional dental implants, they cause you much less pain, and thus less recovery time.

Mini Dental Implant FAQ
Mini dental implants are tiny titanium posts that resemble small screws. They can be implanted into jawbones to secure dentures or false teeth. The replacement teeth or dentures are fitted with a fixture for the head of the MDI to attach to. The head of the implant will snap into these fixtures to hold the teeth or dentures firmly in place and allow them to rest gently on the gum tissue.
Loose and ill-fitting dentures lead to an array of negative side effects, including difficulty in speaking, eating and self-consciousness. Denture wearers often struggle with adhesives and glues in an effort to find a temporary fix to ill-fitting dentures, but these are often messy and uncomfortable. In addition, long-term ill-fitting dentures can result in significant jaw recession, which causes dentures to fit even more poorly.
There are generally 4 Mini Dental Implants implanted at the front of the lower jaw for the purpose of securing dentures. The procedure is relatively painless and non-invasive, and usually only involves one visit to the dentist. The dentist will identify the ideal placement, drill tiny holes, and secure the Mini Dental Implants into those holes. There is usually no need for sutures or repeat visits.
The Food and Drug Administration approved Mini Dental Implants for the use of securing dentures in 2003. This approval was granted following significant clinical and technical evidence, as well as taking into account its successful use by dentists for over 20 years.
Because the replacement teeth rest gently above the gums when attached to the implants, they look, function and feel just like natural teeth.
Dentists have been successfully using Mini Dental Implants for over three decades, and when experienced and qualified dentists such as Dr. Boatman and Dr. Spencer perform the procedure, the success rate is extremely high.
The key considerations are your general health and the density of your jawbone, but because of the size of Mini Dental Implants, they are often a viable option for people who do not have the jawbone density necessary for conventional implants. If you are missing teeth as a result of injury, decay or disease, there is a good possibility that you could be a candidate for Mini Dental Implants.
A skilled dentist can minimize the discomfort for patients by using a local anesthetic. Most patients experience very little pain following the procedure, but pain medication is sometimes prescribed if there is significant discomfort.
Because smoking affects circulation, which is a factor in healing, patients who smoke do have a higher likelihood of implant failure. Heavy drinking or other activities that negatively affect patient health can also affect success.
This depends on your specific insurance provider and plan, but certain plans can have coverage extended to cover Mini Dental Implants.
Because every patient is different and proper upkeep is an important factor in Mini Dental Implants durability, it is difficult to guarantee how long Mini Dental Implants will last. If a mini dental implant fails it can be easily removed and a new implant can usually be placed next to the site of the original implant.
Because Mini Dental Implants are smaller than conventional implants, they are created with a special titanium alloy increasing their strength. Clinical trials have demonstrated the reliability and longevity of mini dental implants, which act just like your natural teeth roots, except these are made from titanium.
Your age should not be a factor in your eligibility for MDIs, as long as you are in good health and have adequate jawbone density; you should be a good candidate. Because of the ease and affordability of MDIs it is often a good option for seniors. Patients with severe osteoporosis or compromised bone density may experience difficulties with implant procedures.

My husband Ryan told me about Dr. Boatman and thank goodness that he did. We were pretty unhappy with our dentist because we felt like he was not communicating well with us and just assumed we had unlimited dollars to spend on dental work. Ryan had a filling that cracked after a week or two and our previous dentist just said, “Yep, let’s just put a crown on it.” No explanation, no nothing. Just give me another $1200.
Dr. Boatman is very good at communicating with his patients and will work with you and the insurance companies. Thank you Dr. B.

I have been having issues with my denture. Then I saw Dr. Boatman on Great Day talking about mini implants. So I called his office. Within 2 weeks, I had mini implants and was able to use my existing denture. The staff in is office are always smiling and very pleasant. I was very impressed with how quickly I was able to get an appointment and get my issues resolved. You couldn’t ask for better care! Dr. Boatman will always bring back that great smile in you!
Dr. Boatman and his staff took amazing care of my family for years and years. When my job took us away from the area, we were all sad to lose him as our dentist. Flash forward a few years to yesterday. I developed a tooth problem my dentist couldn’t get to the bottom of, so I called Dr. Boatman’s office and said if I drove 6+ hours to see him if they would work me in even though it had been a few years since I’d been a regular patient. Of course, they were more than happy to do so. To make a long story short, Dr. Boatman, as usual, expertly got to the root of the problems (pun intended) and this morning I awoke pain free! God bless Troy Family Dental…a level of service so rare in this day and age!

Best dentist I have ever had!
Scott M.Super Ninja for Troy Family Dental
This is my first review of anything, considering my past experiences with dental offices this says a lot about the staff at Troy Family Dental. My wife and I are not fans of going to the dentist, she has been hounding me for a year to go to Dr. Boatman because of the great experience she has every time. It started a couple years ago when she had severe tooth pain on Christmas day when they were closed. She had never been to him, yet he was able to do what needed to be done to quickly relieve her pain and fixed the issue permanently within days. He has all the latest technology, taking care of most cavities with a laser, no need for shots or drills. The entire staff explains everything very well, they are always thorough. They work to get you the best price, discounts for those paying cash. They only do procedures when it is truly necessary if something can wait for a better time for you or your insurance they will wait. Communication is key and they are one of the best I have dealt with in any line of business hands down!
