Periodontal Therapy
Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, affects 50% of the population. It can begin with red or swollen gums, gums that bleed easily, or gums that are receding away from the teeth. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.
Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria found in plaque and is linked to serious diseases that affect the rest of the body, such as heart disease, diabetes, strokes, pre-term birth, and many more.
Daily brushing, flossing, and regular cleanings can help prevent gum disease from occurring, but if periodontal disease is left untreated, it can require scaling, root planing, or even surgery to rid the mouth of the bacteria.
